6 Powerful Pomegranate Based Home Remedies!

Happy November! Fall is a time to take a hint from nature and slow down as the weather gets cooler and night comes sooner. It’s also a time when one of the most nutrient-dense fruits is in season: pomegranates! There are sweet and sour varieties of pomegranates. From an Ayurvedic perspective, the sweet variety eliminates pitta, while the sour variety eliminates vata and kapha. You may have seen these antioxidant-rich fruits at the supermarket and opted to purchase ones that are already peeled, but did you know the entire fruit has health benefits? Keep reading and we’ll tell you how to use the whole fruit (and parts of the plant!) so that nothing goes to waste and your health may flourish. 

6 Powerful Pomegranate Home Remedies

1 – Rind Decoction

Add pomegranate rind to a pot and submerge in water, bring to a boil, then simmer for 20-30 minutes. Drink 40-80 ml as a Brain Tonic, for Heart/Mouth/Throat Diseases, if you have a Burning Sensation or Anemia.  Alternatively drink 15 to 20 ml if suffering from Dysentery/for Colon Health.

2- Digestive Powder

Dry pomegranate rind in the sun until brittle. Take 50 g sun-dried pomegranate rind + 10 g of the following: ground ginger, black salt, white cumin seeds. Make into a powder by grinding in a coffee grinder or using a mortar and pestle. Take 3 g of the powder after meals, with a little warm water, for Better Digestion.

3 – Pomegranate Flower Powder

Take pomegranate flower and dry it in the sun. Once dry, make it into a powder by grinding in a coffee grinder or using a mortar and pestle. Use the powder as a toothpaste for Gingivitis and for generally Healthy Teeth.
4 – Pomegranate Infusion
Soak 50 g pomegranate seeds with 1 liter of water in a clay pot with 25 g of raisins. Let them soak overnight. The next day, drink the infusion throughout the day, which can help with for Hot Flashes, Severe Thirst, Fever, Anger, or Acid Reflux issues. 
5 – Pomegranate Leaf Juice
Dry the leaves and make a powder. Boil 10g of the powder in a cup of water for 10 minutes. Filter and then drink 30ml with a teaspoon of honey, 30 minutes before lunch and dinner to help with IBS, Ulcerative Colitis, Diarrhea and for issues relating to Excessive weight. Refrain from this remedy if you have constipation. 
6 – Pomegranate Fruit Juice
You can also just enjoy the fruit and its juice straight up! Take 20-50 ml at a time. It’s full of vitamin C and antioxidants to Boost Immunity going into winter.
