8 Remedies For Bronchitis Relief

Ayurvedic Remedies for Bronchitis: Soothe Your Lungs Naturally

Bronchitis, known as Kasa Roga in Ayurveda, refers to inflammation of the bronchial tubes leading to excessive coughing, mucus production, chest discomfort, and breathing difficulties. Whether it’s acute or chronic, bronchitis can seriously affect your energy, sleep, and overall comfort. Fortunately, Ayurveda offers time-tested solutions to manage symptoms, strengthen the respiratory system, and prevent recurring infections.

What Causes Bronchitis in Ayurveda?

According to Ayurvedic principles, bronchitis is caused by an imbalance of Kapha and Vata doshas, sometimes accompanied by Pitta. Triggers may include:

  • Weak digestive fire (mandagni) leading to the formation of toxins (ama)
  • Excessive cold, damp weather or improper diet
  • Respiratory infections, allergens, and pollution
  • Repeated suppression of natural urges like sneezing or coughing

The accumulation of ama and aggravated Kapha congest the respiratory channels (pranavaha srotas), leading to inflammation, cough, and breathlessness.

Dosha-Based Presentation of Bronchitis

Vata-Type: Dry cough, breathlessness, pain in chest, worse at night or during cold weather.
Pitta-Type: Burning sensation in chest, yellow or green phlegm, fever, and irritability.
Kapha-Type: Thick white mucus, heaviness in chest, sluggishness, and persistent cough.
